My journey into home care began with a deeply personal connection to my grandmother, the heart and soul of our family. She embodied love and resilience, but everything changed when my grandfather passed away unexpectedly. Suddenly, my grandmother faced the world alone, unable to drive and struggling with memory issues. Despite her challenges, she fiercely resisted the idea of moving in with my parents or going to an assisted living facility.

As I navigated long hours at work, I felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness. The roles had shifted; it was now my turn to care for the woman who had nurtured me throughout my childhood. I often think back to the countless weekends spent at their countryside home, where I created cherished memories and formed an unbreakable bond with her.

My mother became her lifeline, tirelessly managing her needs—shopping, bill payments, and medical appointments. But as Alzheimer’s crept into our lives, it became increasingly dangerous for her to live alone. Eventually, we faced the heart-wrenching decision to move her in with my mother. It was a painful farewell to the home she had loved so dearly. My mother felt frustrated with the home care companies that struggled to provide reliable caregivers. Fortunately, as a Registered Nurse, I knew many dedicated caregivers and could arrange for them to assist with my grandmother’s care.

As Alzheimer’s advanced, it took away my grandmother’s vitality, leaving her bedridden and unrecognizable. With the help of external caregivers, we managed to keep her comfortable at home during her last months. This experience left an indelible mark on my heart and ignited a passion within me. When the time was right, I decided to start my own home care agency. I had witnessed the immense value of compassionate care and recognized the need for a better home care provider that truly understands families’ struggles.

Today, my agency proudly employs 200 dedicated caregivers who provide compassionate assistance to those in need. I firmly believe that with the right support, individuals with Alzheimer’s and other complex needs can thrive in the comfort of their own homes. Through my agency, I aim to alleviate the heavy burden that family caregivers often carry, enabling loved ones to age gracefully in the sanctuary they cherish.

The fulfillment I derive from this work is immeasurable. It allows me to give others what I was able to help provide for my grandmother years ago. While nothing can replace her presence, caring for my clients feels like an extension of the love and compassion I held for her and my grandfather. Every day, I’m reminded of the importance of home care and strive to honor their memory, knowing we are making a positive impact on families just like ours.
